Game Rules
Turns - When a new turn comes out and the new title is written, please
do not go back and back post. There is a reason I pushed things forward. If you
wish to back post, please take it offline and cc me the conversation. If you
back post on list, I will warn you first and then start taking some exp points
away. I know this sounds harsh, but I have asked repeatedly not to back post at
certain points and I still got it on the list. So, please don't make me whip out
the big guns and do this, because many of you are close to leveling as we speak.
Replying - I know this is sooo hard, because I do this all the time in my
games, but I need you to read all the posts that are currently out before you
reply. This will get you up to date what has happened thus far and not create a
stir when you go back and add something later. Also, try to keep all your
replies to everyone in one post. I know that it is hard to do and I often foul
things up when I reply as NPCs, but try to keep the replies to one post...cut
and paste please. :)
Over replying - Yes, I know it is not a word, but I am the DM and I say
it is. :P This means you are replying too fast too far for some of the players.
I know it is hard not to get ahead when you are enjoying the moment and the
conversation, but we have to remember not everyone has access at work to email
or that our off shore friends are asleep and can't reply to this stimulating
conversation. Remember, in reality, you can't hold 5 conversations at
once...well, maybe some of you can, but it would be difficult. This means your
character can't be everywhere in every conversation.
Dramatics - I know that dramatics is a part of life and I am the biggest
drama queen when it comes to certain things, but we have to ask ourselves as
characters are we taking things too far. I know it is hard not to over-react to
certain situations and some of you have personal feelings about certain
subjects, but please remember this is your character and not you. So, ask
yourself, would your character go this far and is it too far even for a fantasy
story?
Complaints - Since I am pretty much burnt out about hearing complaints
about the game,
Geoff has stepped up to be the compliant department for now. So, if you wish
to have a discussion about the game itself or a character/player, please take
him to him for now on. He has been the Co-DM since the beginning and he has
elected to take on this responsibility for awhile. I will however, entertain any
comments you have about these rules (off list please).
Leaving the game - If you wish to leave the game even after some things
have been laid out here or any other reason then you must let me know. I will
not allow characters to just run off without me knowing about it first for it
breaks the outline and the game. If you could plan on coming back then I will
just write your character out for awhile, but if you plan on not coming back as
that character, please know that I can kill you off if I chose too. I do not
plan on NPCing any character if they can be written out for awhile or there is
no hope for them coming back. Also, I have been trying my hardest to keep
everyone in the game by talking them into staying. From this point on, I will
try for awhile, but after a certain frustration level is hit, I will just simply
allow you to leave without a fight. I am not going to force anyone into staying
if they aren't having fun.
Fun - This is a GAME everyone. This is suppose to be fun and enjoyable.
This is not a thing to take personally or to heart when a character goes off on
your character or your character seems to fade to the shadows for a moment and
doesn't shine as brightly as you like. I know it is hard for I take things
personally when people talk about my game for I work so hard to make it
enjoyable and I find out they are not enjoying it at all. So, enjoy your
character and allow them to grow even if times are rough in the group, but try
to work through them so you guys can once more dance in the light of the sun or
do battle with the meanies. If things upset you, step back away from the
computer and play another character or watch TV for awhile. Don't let it get to
you! I know it is hard...one of my characters now has a disease that makes her
swear at points for no apparent reasons and it unnerved me at first, but now I
am thinking it might be fun. It just took me awhile to see that.
